Merken Magazine

About us

Merken is your Moroccan magazine about culture and society. The seasonal issues and articles walk you through the red carpets of cinema, the corridors of museums, the vinyls roundabouts, between the shelves of libraries, and all the other gates of culture. Our motivation comes first from our love of all forms of arts, from all around the world, and awareness of their importance and impact on societies, and from wanting to highlight the rich cultures and change what needs to be changed for a better appreciation. As much as we love and cherish our country and passionately advocate for it to Grow and Glow, we recognize the importance of constructive criticism. That's why we're committed to diving beneath the surface, uncovering and understanding the layers of Moroccan culture and society. With the help of our critical writers, we aim to explore, address, and remove the toxic layers that slow our progress, promoting a more authentic and enlightened appreciation of Morocco.

Merken Magazine is not just for Moroccans as various sections of the magazine, articles, and other content target our welcomed foreign readers and visitors. For especially young Moroccans and new people living in the country, we offer practical guides and skills for navigating life here, helping you integrate and thrive in this beautiful country. Want to make Atay? We got you!

Even if you have nothing to do with Morocco and you enjoy quality content, this is the right space for you too.

Vision

Wandering in Merken is like sitting in a Riad, as the sound of Oud music and Ghazal poetry plays in the air, every tune draws an art piece crafted for you, maybe by you, but definitely to you. Canvases painted with Hemri, Smawi, and Henna. The scent of Enned and Bukhour carries you to a buffet of all forms of arts and cultures, and some criticism of all these is presented to you on a Tabsil Taous. The richness of this stems from the diversity of our hospitable, inclusive, and accepting culture as history proves to show. Merken extends that by its inclusivity and promotion of tolerance, which are some of its fundamental values. The Riad’s Aqouass are a portal to seeing the rest of the world. A panoramic view of the Parthenon of Athens, the Mount Fuji of Japan, the Opera House of Sydney, The pyramids of Egypt, and the Maya of Mesoamerica. We are open to the world, after all, what better way to know yourself than to know the other

community

We’re all about community at Merken Magazine. We are dedicated to supporting small artists and businesses across various domains providing them a platform to showcase their art and reach a wider audience. Whether you're a talented painter, musician, poet, writer, or creator of any kind, we want to hear from you! Share your work with us, and you might just see it featured in our next issue. And that is our goal, that is our capital, and that is our profit. It can be difficult in today’s age to find a trustworthy media source you can genuinely trust to at least not manipulate you. Everyone is trying to sell you something, and Merken is no different, but what we offer goes far beyond mere transactions. We're selling you Atay bn3na3 at best, but that's not even our main goal. We are dedicated to investing and promoting our and your views on different things forming the mosaic of our culture to benefit all as a society, and that’s our collective profit.
